New Year - New Artists

“New Year - New Artists will be on exhibit from Saturday, January 4 through Sunday, February 2, 2020 and will feature the work of Christian Ammon, Laura Appelman, Susan Carson, Jim Malloy and Emily Teall. An opening reception will be held Saturday, January 11 from 5 -7pm.

“This year’s exhibit will highlight the work of 5 diverse, professional artists new to the LAA,” Director, Mark Macrides stated. “We’re excited to be welcoming to the organization talented new artists from area communities. Each of these artists brings a unique style and body of work to the LAA, as well as established and upcoming profiles in the local art community.” Emily Teall’s painted and sculptural works use organic imagery to express ideas surrounding anxiety, memory, and the role of the body in identity. Christian Ammon’s landscapes, seascapes and figurative work employ an expressionist palette influenced by his interest in color theory.  With every idea or subject, Jim Malloy attempts to capture its essence rather than its form using vivid colors and textures as well as unconventional methods of applying acrylic paint.  Laura Appelman’s newest work comprises two collections, “We Lived,” mixed media recreations of old figurative photos and “Deep Dive,” a series of acrylic paintings exploring the surreal possibilities of amended nature. Susan Carson’s experience as a musician provided her with the deep sensitivity and passion for music and performance that is evident in her paintings. All of this work combined creates a fresh and unique exhibit, which will intrigue and excite the viewer.
