Ellen Hawley is an independent curator, art advisor, and juror, with extensive experience developing concept-driven exhibitions for institutional nonprofit organizations and galleries. Her curatorial practice centers on contemporary art with an emphasis on conceptual frameworks, thoughtful artist selection, accessible audience engagement, and strategic clarity.

Through her business, Ellen Hawley of Studio Tensegrity, LLC, collaborates closely with private clients, commercial businesses, real estate developers, and cultural organizations. She applies years of professional experience and strong project management skills to every project, from discovery and sourcing through selection, acquisition, placement, and installation. Her concept-driven exhibitions include extraORDINARY things, Twist and Shout, Biophilia, GLOW, Home Sweet Home, and Ephemeral Bloom, and she frequently serves as a juror for exhibitions throughout Connecticut and New York.

Ellen’s unique perspective is informed by a blend of influences: a lifetime of art-related practices, an earlier career in advertising and marketing; as a film production designer in LA; as well as her family’s architectural practice. She holds a BA in Art History from Syracuse University, with studies in architecture (for non-majors), advertising, and marketing, and serves on advisory committees for the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, CT; Pelham Art Center in Pelham, NY; the Ely Center of Contemporary Art in New Haven, CT; and has a studio and is a member of the Loft Artists Association in Stamford, CT.
